Optical Radio-Frequency Generation
Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 2pm
Abstract :
Over the last decades, the communication development led to new and essential habits in everyday life: individual wireless communications (1st commercial SMS in 1992!), instantaneous transactions, administration, remote surgery, “universal” access to knowledge, and even the redefinition of our social networks ... All these changes require a constant adaptation of our communications standards and networks architectures. deployments of optical communication cables, data centers, radio antennas and satellite constellations are the visible impacts of this evolution. Nowadays, the enormous amount of transmitted data combined to the growing number of devices requires both optical communication capability and wireless links flexibility.
In such context, this work carried out at IMEP-LaHC shows how opto-microwave components and systems offer relevant solutions for millimeter-wave radio frequency generation (i.e.> 30 GHz). Studies from carrier generation to the demodulation of Gbit/s transmitted data in the 50 GHz-100 GHz range will be presented. The obtained demonstrators are not only compatible with communication standards, but also offer interesting solutions for their applications at higher frequencies but also for other applications.
